What it does. Perplexity's assistant tracks your preferences, shows product cards from retailers and finishes the purchase in the conversation using PayPal's checkout. PayPal acts as merchant of record and extends its buyer protection to these purchases.
Where it falls short. Sources do not describe a separate approval step beyond the one-click purchase, and mobile apps lagged the web launch. Reports disagree on access rules over time. Amazon sued Perplexity in a separate dispute over its Comet browser shopping on Amazon.com.
