Why 2: Epic says it books and changes appointments and takes bill payments when a patient asks, one step at a time. It is not higher because it does not plan multi-step work, and not lower because at some health systems it takes real actions; Sutter Health's version cannot schedule at all.

What it does. Epic says Emmie answers patients' questions, surfaces information from their charts and takes action for them, including booking and changing appointments over text message and handling bill payments and payment plans. It also gives plain-language summaries of results and visit instructions. Which of these a patient gets depends on how their health system has set it up.

Where it falls short. Features differ by hospital: Sutter Health says its Emmie cannot schedule or cancel appointments, message the care team, diagnose, give personalised medical advice or update the record, and its chats are not part of the medical record. Generative AI can make mistakes, and Sutter's page carries no crisis or emergency guidance; Emmie is not a substitute for emergency care. Epic's page states no limits or availability.
