# Spellbook Associate (Spellbook)

Spellbook Associate is a standalone vertical AI agent from Spellbook. A contract-work agent that plans a multi-document legal project, then edits the documents in Word for a lawyer to review. Nearfi's Agent Index rates its autonomy 3/5 (multi-step, with approval): it plans a multi-step contract project and carries it out across documents in Word, asking for approval at the plan and summary stages by default; an auto mode removes the per-step pauses, but it works on drafts you review with tracked changes, so it sits at 3 rather than 4. Status: live; 0 incident(s) logged.

- Category: Legal · vertical · Standalone
- What it does: Spellbook says Associate can plan, execute and check its work on larger assignments. In the launch demo it outlined a plan, summarised a term sheet, opened documents in Microsoft Word and suggested changes across them, with rewind and versioning. By default it asks for approval before proceeding; an auto mode runs the workflow and leaves everything to review at the end.
- Limits: The 'first legal AI agent' claim was disputed at launch. Spellbook's time-saved figures (75% on contract work) are its own, its site doesn't use the word 'agent' for the current product line, and pricing isn't published. Output is draft text for a lawyer to check.
