What it does. Sidekick works inside the Shopify admin with the permissions of the logged-in user. In December 2025 Shopify added the ability to build custom admin apps and visual automation workflows from a prompt, and to save reusable prompts as 'skills'. Shopify's developer documentation says Sidekick suggests changes and the merchant confirms them.
Where it falls short. Shopify's docs say Sidekick does not change the store on its own from a launched prompt, and it is not available on every store. A retail analyst quoted by Retail Brew said merchants will want reliability to improve before trusting it beyond low-stakes tasks. Launch date and pricing not verified.
