# Samsung Bixby (One UI 8.5) (Samsung)

Samsung Bixby (One UI 8.5) is an in-app vertical AI agent from Samsung. Samsung's rebuilt Bixby finds and changes Galaxy phone settings from plain-language requests, and shows live web results from Perplexity. Nearfi's Agent Index rates its autonomy 2/5 (acts when asked): it acts when asked, finding and changing a phone setting from a plain-language request, one step at a time; it is not 3 because the sources opened describe no multi-step plans. Status: beta; 0 incident(s) logged.

- Category: Home & voice · vertical · In-app
- What it does: Announced as a beta for One UI 8.5 on 20 February 2026, the new Bixby lets you describe what you want, such as the screen not timing out while you read, and it finds and turns on the right setting. It can also check your current settings and suggest fixes, and it shows live web results inside its own interface through Perplexity. It needs a Samsung Account, a data connection and, for location-dependent answers, location consent.
- Limits: Samsung's announcement does not say whether Bixby can control SmartThings devices, so home-appliance control is not claimed here. Recognition is limited to certain accents and dialects in the supported languages. The beta is restricted to a handful of markets and no price is stated. Droid Life reported that Samsung pulled its first press release after publishing it.
