# OpenAI dots (OpenAI)

OpenAI dots is a standalone general AI agent from OpenAI. OpenAI's always-on personal agents, each with its own cloud computer, that work on your goals while you are away. Nearfi's Agent Index rates its autonomy 4/5 (multi-step on its own): each dot keeps working toward goals on its own cloud computer between chats, with user-set rules for which actions run freely or need approval; proactive background research is read-only, so it is not yet rated 5. Status: live; 0 incident(s) logged.

- Category: General assistant · general · Standalone
- What it does: Announced at DevDay on 29 September 2026, each dot runs on its own cloud computer with a virtual browser and connects to more than 4,000 apps. You talk to it in ChatGPT, Slack or Teams, and set rules to allow, block or require approval for specific actions. Reworked reports that its background research is read-only, and that in one demonstration it sent an invoice only after the user approved.
- Limits: Reworked reports company 'specialist dots' are in pilot only, with no timeline for Microsoft Agent 365 support, and sensitive tasks such as changing a password stay with the user. We found no independent test of how reliably dots complete multi-step work, and could not open OpenAI's own announcement.
