Why 1: it reflects with you and recommends meditations and content from the Headspace library, and you choose what to do; it takes no other actions.

The findings

What it does. Ebb is a conversational companion trained in motivational interviewing. It helps members reflect on their thoughts and emotions and then recommends meditation, mindfulness and wellbeing content. Headspace added voice in December 2025 and says it plans longer-term memory.

Where it falls short. Headspace calls Ebb a 'sub-clinical support tool': it is not for clinical use and gives no mental health advice or diagnoses, and the company says AI is not a replacement for human-based care. Ebb watches for language about suicidal ideation, self-harm, abuse, eating disorders and substance abuse and then shows emergency and local resources. It is not a substitute for crisis support. We found no regulator clearance for Ebb as a medical device.
